On Dokuzuncu Yüzyýlda Doðu Akdeniz Liman Kentinin Yapýsý

Doðu Akdeniz liman kentlerinin pek çoðunun geliþiminde ve bazýlarýnýn da bir iskeleden liman kentine evrilmesinde, on dokuzuncu yüzyýlýn özellikle Doðu Akdeniz’de yarattýðý üretim biçim ve iliþkilerindeki deðiþimin etkisini yadsýmak olanaksýzdýr. Ancak öte yandan, söz konusu kentlerin, ortak bazý yapýsal özellikler taþýdýklarý ve sahip olduklarý liman olanaklarý ile deniz üzerinden kurulan yeni bir iliþki aðý ve biçimini üreten birer aktör olduklarý görülür. Peki, özellikle on dokuzuncu yüzyýlýn ikinci yarýsýndan itibaren, Doðu Akdeniz’de artan ticaret ve nüfus hareketlerinin birer odak noktasý olan bu kentlerin, sahip olduklarý benzer yapýsal özellikler, yirminci yüzyýla kadarki süreçte nasýl bir geliþim ve deðiþim geçirmiþtir? Bu soru çerçevesinde, söz konusu kentlere iliþkin çeþitli çalýþmalar incelenerek, Doðu Akdeniz liman kentlerinin ortak yapýsal özellikleri ve on dokuzuncu yüzyýlda geçirdikleri benzerlik gösteren mekânsal deðiþim ele alýnmýþtýr.

Urban Structure of the Eastern Mediterranean Port City in Nineteenth Century

The Mediterranean attracted researchers as a field of study due to its existence as the material space of reciprocal and regenerative relationships between human beings, their culture and nature, land and sea. The port cities in the Eastern Mediterranean region had been mostly discussed in relation to their economic relationships, owing to their geographic location, and to globalization processes. In this study, the spatial structure of the Eastern Mediterranean port cities in the nineteenth century is discussed. Accordingly hereby, the shaping of the urban structure of the Eastern Mediterranean port cities is discussed in the study with reference to the components of urban structure throughout different examples. Since most of the previous studies on Mediterranean port cities focus on their economical and social aspects, this study aims to contribute to these studies with a spatial perspective.
